About me

About me

Welcome to Travel Write Change and my little corner of the world wide writing space where I share my journaling journey.

“Write to find out what you know.”

Hilary Mantel

Hi, I’m Rebecca, a teacher, coach and writer based in Spain. I’ve always loved words and learning and, over the years, I’ve journaled sporadically whenever I needed to solve problems or vent.

However, in 2016 when I was going through a challenging time at work, I realised that most of my journaling had a negative focus. It helped me get things off my chest, but didn’t really help me move forward.

They say you get what you focus on, so I began to think about journaling differently. At the time, I was attending creative writing classes, and began to see the possibilities of combining creative writing with journaling.

In 2018 I started running Creative Writing for Wellbeing courses as a volunteer with a counselling agency and going to deliver these courses in community settings. I started to notice that the participants often came because of their interest in creative writing. They wanted to be more creative, overcome barriers to writing and gain confidence, so I added some coaching techniques to see what would happen. Participants reported “accessing wisdom that you have inside that you did not realise you have”.

“The way Rebecca led us by easing us gradually into the writing really allows
you to access wisdom that you have inside that you did not realise you have.
It’s quite astonishing the things that appear on paper. It feels that they are
coming from a deeper level.”
Maryia Semianchova, Yoga Instructor, December 2022

I started tapping into the power of the group, exploring how guided reflection around writing allowed people to connect at a deeper level, along with the potential for developing creative thinking, expanding our ideas and uncovering insights. Attendees told me they were learning more about themselves and their creativity. We saw how these connections stimulated insights, drawing out answers that were there all along.

Journaling as a creative outlet

Sometimes writing leads you on an unexpected journey or you morph from what might appear to be a few random scribbles to asking yourself ‘where did that come from?

How do you reach these a-ha moments that empower you to formulate new creative combinations and inspire you to move forward with your projects?

Through this blog, I aim to share how writing can serve you as your own creative life coach. I also share a little about life in this part of Andalusia as I encourage you to join me on the journey as a writer.

So why not give yourself permission to enjoy the process and let the magic happen?
